Clash of the titans

The converted version of old seen Clash of the Titans (1981), directed by Desmond Davis has appeared in the box office again. New version of the myth about legendary Perseus son of Zeus has pleased the viewers in March 2010. Quite frankly this is not a treasure of the movie industry and the work of the director Louis Letterrier should be noted. However, I would not confuse you with the praise of the amazing story development, because quite frankly the story is not that good. Mortal son of Zeus is all in the war between gods and humanity and the motivator is death of his mortal parents which were taken by god of the underworld Hades. Jemma Arterton, playing character called Io, 'punished' with eternal youth is making her big appearance with noticeable part in the box office hit. We also get a big part of Sam Worthington, previously seen in Avatar and stunning the audience with his good looks, but not a very fascinating performance. The actors are full of familiar names such as Ralph Fiennes, Alexsa Davallos, Liam Neeson however the appearance of such a big faces, does not have the same effect as the special effects do.
We should praise spectacularly made fight scenes, especially when the Kranken is released and Perseus as the only hope of mortal greece, as he is the demi-god saves the humanity. The adventure of Perseus, has lots of moments that will make you jump a little bit out of your seats, does not matter whether you are at home or in the theatre. As you'll be seeing Medusas head chopped of, the hand that was cut off the body turning into a big claw and quite a big scene of kranken scaring us all off.
The crises is seen when, Andromeda mythologically told princess that further on married Perseus, is rescued hanging on the edge of the sea with her wrists hanging in the air, while Perseus with his magical horse Pegasus. However the myth ends well and Perseus is with the desired character, pleasing the audience. Io has been brought back from dead by Zeus, which after many years, finally decided to stand by his son.
The story and the film itself reminds me a little bit about Percy Jackson movie, which premiered just recently. Despite the fact that the latter one was not nearly as enjoyable while screening, it still has the same story line. Demi-god struggling to bring peace to the world.
Even though I do not admire pop-corn kind of box office hits, I still think that craftsmanship should be noted as one of the very best, making the experience of viewing the film truly beautiful, not only with good looking characters but also the effects enriching the movie with the necessary charm.
As a result, my suggestion to you all is to go and see it, not because it will leave to thinking about changing something in your life as most of the greatest movies do, but you will enjoy the evening spent of the gorgeous scenes to sea and believe me it is not that frequent in our time. So grab a good friend, lover or a sibling and find an afternoon off to just enjoy yourself with the movie that most of you are not likely to see for the second time, but the first one will still be memorable!

Dream Town (Ocnebis Qalaqi)

Those of you who live or know a little bit about Georgia, would notice that the film industry in this country is not on it's highest note. On the other hand, breakdowns are made to motivate and develop. I would say that recent premiers have shown, that despite the influence of drugs, corruption and war, there still is something to say. Which is love.
The film called The Dream Town is directed by David Imedashvili, even though the name itself does not say anything significant to those of you, even the ones that are actually Georgian, it will mean something after you've seen the film. However, if you ask me the biggest stun of the film is the music and the actors. I have been lucky enough to see the film myself. Despite the fact, that after the most of the premiers that do appear pleasing to me I dig into the research about the director, I asked a few good friends of mine about the actors and the soundtrack composers.
To be fair, the love story is not that surprising. Rich girl, falling for a guy having nothing, And then another rich guy being a funny villain and trying to ruin it all. As it always does happen, the girl having everything, falls for the guy with nothing and the viewer gets the feeling that Tbilisi does have a love story to tell after all. Does not matter whether the story is full of new or unheard moments, it still is just a fun film to see that will not leave you begging for the light at the end of the tunnel. It would be fair for me to say that Dream Town pleased me enough to see it again, not because of the striking performances or amazing directing skill or the script, but the music and the warm feeling left afterwards. The group that is acting and pleasing us with the wonderful music is Mgzavrebi, if you are curious you can check it out on itunes, where they have their first album. My opinion on them can be a little biased as I am a fan, however the fact is that there is nothing and no one as recent as they are in this little country, they are what you call a fresh breath of air. I read a blog post a few days ago that the success after the film is all that the music group would need after the movie premier, I do not completely agree. Even though the film will boost the success and sell the records ( hopefully), the freshness of their music should always be granted and noted as we do not see as many of that talented and at the same time a bit traditional musicians in Georgia, so stop unworthy critique and note their part in the better development of our music culture ( this concerns those of you who live in Georgia). The lovebirds of the film Sandro (Archil Sologashvili) and Nini ( Nanka Kalatozishvili), are cute and do give an impression of a beautiful couple, shredding a teardrop of the audience at the finale. The villain Jeko (Paata Papuashvili) is really played well and does give the viewer the feeling that the reality has guys like that in Tbilisi, which is the best part of the story, making you wonder whether you have seen it in your town or not. The third act to be noticed is the group Mgzavrebi again, their role is held on the background, however after you finish viewing the movie you are left with the question, This FIlm was a little bit all about them wasn't it? Which is a good and an interesting turn as well in the industry. Other characters, even though they are full of notable (Georgian) faces are not that worth of noting, which is a point of view that I hold and none of you has to agree.
As for the film the colorfulness and the positive vibe, left me begging for more. This fact is a little unusual for me as I do appreciate the real film with truly dedicated performers. On the other hand, the set and the background should be taken into account and I should say. Well done M-group, well done the actors and especially Mgzavrebi, as this so called 'popcorn' film does give a hope to Georgian cinematography into the better and bigger future.
I and I hope many of you await more premiers in Tbilisi and hopefully more of them will make you feel that you want to see that movie again, does not matter whether it is in a week, a month or next new year, you just wonna say SEE-Ya!
Just read a note!
Even though by blog page is going to be concentrated on writing reviews on Hollywood orientated public, I am still going to let you know what is going on in my homeland. Concerning the industry that Georgians are developing, and also the foreign movie base that is not less reach then the hollywood industry itself.
My first review on this blog, that is only dedicated to movie critique is going to open up with the foreign film review.
So start reading and i hope you do enjoy my opinionated movie world.

The Place You are visiting
This blog is going to be committed to film reviews that are seen by me skeptical eye. I do not know whether my opinion will be worth reading for you, the only guarantee you have is that I am always going to stay true to myself and present you the best version of the review I can give. How am I adequate in film making and movie industry? well I have been studying cinematography and am a director/actress. So my opinion will be slightly not that amateur as you would expect it to be from a person that is not into the matter of that art.
Good luck and here I come with reviews!!!
Hope you enjoy it!
